Good morning, Team
I heard somebody say recently that "Apple don't even need to try sell their products because they literally just sell themselves".
And, whilst the conversation in the group continued, my mind stopped and I couldn't quite work out what it was that I didn't like about it.
Temporarily, I didn't know if I agreed or completely disagreed.
I have a tendency to do this, I get stuck during a conversation where my mouth continues to do the work for me and talk-talk-talk but my mind is still minutes behind trying to reconcile what I heard.
Anyway, I ruminated on this point for a solid five minutes.
I finally settled on a complete disagreement.
I decided it was a entirely harmless but simultaneously a complete, fragrant disregard for the work that Apple have put in to get to where they are at now, to "sell out effortlessly".
In addition, they actually work magnitudes harder than other companies for the illusion that they "don't need to try".
To make something look easy, you must first put in so many reps of that thing that you experience all possible forms of failure and learning.
To grow, and improve.
In addition, the difficulty of a given thing is static.
Running 5km in 20 minutes, will always remain the same level of difficulty. The only way to change that is by reducing the time allowed, or increasing the distance.
So, when you work hard for years on your 5km pace and finally run 5km consistently under 20 minutes, it isn't easy, you just got fitter, faster, stronger.
Therefore, you should take the credit for the result but you should also be publicly acknowledged for the work you've put in to get there.
So, for the thing that you make look easy - whatever that thing is - don’t let anybody inadvertently suggest that it’s just “easy” for you.
If they do, either set them straight and turn the conversation extremely awkward, or smile in knowing that person will never be the type of person that understands what it takes to make something "easy".
